Update on City of Tallahassee McCord Pond Drainage Ditch Stormwater Improvements Project

August 18, 2021
RE: McCord Pond Drainage Ditch Improvements Project

Dear Property Owner or Current Resident:

The City of Tallahassee continues to make progress toward the McCord Pond Drainage Ditch Improvements project. The purpose of the project is to decrease erosion and improve maintenance access, safety and stormwater conveyance capacity.

Following community outreach in 2017 and 2019, the design alternative selected will enclose a portion of the ditch with a concrete box culvert. Currently, design plans are being finalized, and land acquisition is being completed. Construction is anticipated to begin early next year. Once underway, construction is estimated to take nine months. The limits of the project are from Betton Road to areas just north of Post Road (see map below).

The construction activities associated with these improvements will involve the use of heavy equipment and other aspects of land development that present a degree of disturbance and inconvenience. It is the City’s priority to be upfront and informative; keep a safe, clean project site; and be a good neighbor. City inspectors will maintain an open line of communication with the contractor and will continuously work with them to ensure the process is as minimally disturbing as possible. Thank you in advance for your understanding as we work to bring a safer and improved stormwater facility to your area and our community.

As the project progresses, additional updates will be provided as needed.

If you have questions, would like to discuss the project further or require any additional information, please contact me at your convenience. I am happy to speak or meet with you regarding the project.
