McCord Park

Join us for some fresh air and good exercise, helping to make our park a better place for both wildlife and people. Some will work on litter cleanup around the pond edges, some will work spreading pine straw at the bases of trees planted at previous Arbor Days, others will work on invasive plant removal. There are Chinese tallow trees encroaching around the pond and we
really need to control the air potato and cat’s claw vines that are climbing trees at the pond’s edge, so lots of hands are needed. Bring your friends to help!
We will also plant a few native trees and will clean out all 5 bluebird nest boxes, preparing them for the spring nesting season. This is always a fun activity for children. By the way, did you know that the bat house at McCord Park has 354 resident bats as of November 2022? You can watch them leave the bat house each night at dusk.
There will be hot coffee, hot chocolate and baked goods at the welcome table. Come a few minutes early to chat with neighbors over coffee.
It should be a fun and rewarding morning. We will meet no matter how cold but will cancel if raining. Bring garden gloves, shovel, mattock, pruners, loppers. We will have some extra tools if you do not have your own. There are chores for all ages and strengths. Children welcome, teenagers encouraged!
