McCord Park Habitat Patrol

This event has ended

Want to foster biodiversity in our park? Create better habitat for birds, insects and other wildlife? Join us in May for invasive plant removal. We will be working mostly on coral ardisia removal, bagging any remaining berries, and then digging the plants. Bring pruners or scissors for cutting the berries.

We will supply the bags. Bring a shovel for digging plants. Children can help even with a trowel to dig or pull the tiny seedlings that are thick under the larger ardisias. Wear long pants, boots or sturdy sneakers and bring your gardening gloves and a water bottle.

This is rewarding work; we are really making a difference in the woodland area west of the pond between the paved path and Thomasville Road. Bring a water bottle. If you would rather patrol the edges of the pond for litter, that would be appreciated as well.

Parents, if your child is looking for Bright Futures community service credit, this event qualifies! Just let us know and we will certify your student’s participation.

Refreshments will be provided by the BHNA.

We will be scheduling periodic workdays throughout the year. Come to one or all of them!
